RANTHAMBORE
NATIONAL PARK.
The Ranthambore National Park great destination for adventure seekers and lovers
of the tiger. It is a tremendous replica of the success of the ambitious Project
Tiger's . It was established in 1955 as a sanctuary, 1973 as a tiger reserve
and 1981 as a national park. The vegetation is dry deciduous and the impressive
Ranthambore fort is also located a one of the hill tops. Ranthambore National
Park boasts of one of the maximum population of tigers and they can be easily
spotted roaming with their majestically or hunting sambars, normally across
the lakes. Also, the forest rest house, Jogi Mahal, has the second-largest banyan

BY AIR: Jaipur the nearest airport(the closest airport).
BY TRAIN: Ranthambore National Park is approx. 12 km from the Sawai Madhopur
railway station, that lies on the Delhi to Mumbai trunk route.
BY ROAD: A good network of roads connects Sawai Madhopur, the nearest
town, with all major cities in Rajasthan or drive to Ranthambore (165 kms)

SARISKA NATIONAL PARK

Declared
in 1979 as a Tiger Reserve, Sariska National Park is a wide valley with two
large plateaus that lies in the Aravalli hills. The large Siliserh Lake is at
the north-eastern corner. The forests are dry deciduous, with trees of Dhak,
Acacia, Ber and Salar. The Tigers of Sariska are largely nocturnal and are not
as easily seen as those of Ranthambore. The park also has good populations of
Nilgai, Sambar and Chital. In the evenings, Indian Porcupine, Striped Hyena,
Indian Palm Civet and even Leopard are sometimes seen. The forests are lush
during and immediately following the monsoon. Its allows excellent for bird
watching and has a very large population of Indian Peafowl.
MUST VISIT PLACES: The Sariska National Park has many historical and
religious places, including the ruins of the Kankwari Fort, Neelkanth temples,
the Budha Hanumab Temple near Pandupol, the Bharthari Temple near the park office,
and the hot and cold springs of Taalvriksh.
BEST TIME TO VISIT SARISKA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY:
Sariska is open to visitors throughout the year, although certain jungle tracks
are closed during the monsoon and the breeding season. The best time to visit
the park is late in the winter around January or February. If you dont
mind the heat, April to June is a great time to see animals at the waterholes.
HOW TO GET THERE:
BY AIR: The Jaipur is the nearest airport from Sariska aprox115 km 3
hours.
BY TRAIN: The nearest railway station is at Alwar (36 km).
BY ROAD: Sariska wildlife sanctuary is situated off the Delhi-Alwar-Jaipur
Road. Jaipur is located at a distance of 107-kms and Delhi at 200-kms(5-6 HRS.)
from Sariska. Sariska is well connected with Alwar, which is further directly
connected with bus services from Delhi and Jaipur.
ACCOMMODATION AND FACILITIES: The grand Sariska Palace in the vicinity
of the park office has a large complex. The main palace has been converted into
a hotel from a hunting lodge. The facilities offered include room service, hot
and cold running water, swimming pool, health club, ayurvedic treatment and
money changing. Each room is well furnished with original Louis Quartzes and
art deco furniture and has private bathroom with bath and/or shower and toilet.
Tiger's Den, a tourist bungalow run by the Rajasthan government & a private
budget property called Tiger Heavens are also nice places to stay. Safaris are

CORBETT NATIONAL PARK
Established
: 1936 as a national park, India's first (named Hailey National Park;
In 1957 renamed Corbett National Park), 1973 as a tiger reserve.
The historical place of launch of Project Tiger in 1973, Jim Corbett National
Park has a very diverse flora and fauna. It is a delight for the avid wildlife
lovers across the world. This India's finest National Parks covers an area of
52,082 hectares and has the Tiger, Indian Elephant and Leopard as its major
assets. The Ramganga river drains the Corbett National Park , which is a large
low valley in itself. The river is rich in the magnificent mahaseer. Along the
high banks of Dhangarhi Gate and Dhikala, several Marsh Crocodile and the Gharial
Crocodile can also be seen. It also ideal for bird watchers as more than 500
species of birds are recorded in this park.

ACCOMMODATION AND FACILITIES : There are many accommodation facilities
at Ramnagar as well as at the Corbett National park. Being one of the most frequently
visited parks in the country, the forest department and other agencies have
their hotels, lodges, rest houses, log huts for the visitors.
Forest rest houses, log huts etc at Dhikala, forest rest houses at Sarapduli,
Bijrani, Ghairal offer some of the best stay in the region.. To stay at the
government hotels, rest houses etc make sure that reservations are done well
in advance as the pressure is really high during the tourist seasons.

KANHA
NATIONAL PARK (MADHYA PARDESH).
Kanha National Park is Kipling country and the nearby forests were the setting
for the "Jungle Book" by Rudyard Kipling. It's an outstanding national
park and wildlife reserve of Central India, noted for its last remaining population
of the hard-ground race of the Swamp Deer (approximately 380). Spotting wild
animals is always a matter of luck, but Kanha is so rich in wildlife that the
odds are titled in your favour. Most people are keener to meet Kanha's most
famous citizen: the Tiger. Thereare a healthy numbers of the Tiger found over
here, which may be seen during the day, and is one of the best places left to
see them.
There are 175 varieties of birds in Kanha National Park. So if you happen
to be bird watcher, look forward to a full spotting itinerary. The terrain
inside the park is varied, nonetheless enjoyable. Bamboo forests flow into
Sal forests and meadows. There are herds of spotted deer to be seen with smaller
herds of spotted deer to be seen with smaller herds of beautiful antelope,
the black buck. With a little luck, you could also spot the timorous barking
deer. It's snapping warns other denizens of the forest that a predator is
around. There is also a very strong possibility that you will see the rare
Barasingha, the Swamp Deer. Once there were only 66 of these in Kanha, but
careful conservation and management raised their population to over 400.
It was at Kanha that the eminent zoologist George Schaller undertook the
first ever-scientific study of the tiger. Another landmark at Kanha is the
preservation of the 'hard ground' Barasingha. This was achieved by extending
the grasslands, relocating villages and by increasing habitat.
HOW TOGET THERE: Khatia (3 km from Kisli) and Mukki are the two main entry
points to the Park. The nearest town is Mandla (65 km).
BY AIR: Drive from Jabalpur (6 hours), which is also the nearest airport
or from Nagpur (7 hours drive). There are regular air services to Raipur and
Nagpur (270 kms) from other airports in India. From these airports one has to
drive to the park.
BY RAIL: The most convenient railheads for Kanha are Jabalpur and Nagpur.
These two are well connected by fast and superfast trains other destinations
in India.
BY ROAD: To access the Kanha National Park there are two ways, via Khatia
or via Kisli. From Jabalpur there are daily bus services to these places. From
Jabalpur, Bilaspur and Raipur one can hire taxis to the park. No vehicles are
allowed inside the park after dark so get there before dusk.
DESCRIPTION: By a special statute in 1955, Kanha National Park came into
being as a part of the Project Tiger. Made up of Sal forests, with dry deciduous
vegetation, the Kanha National Park has diverse flora and fauna. It boasts of
22 species of mammals like this park is the gaur, sambar, and chausingha. Barasingha
is the real jewel of this national park and blackbucks can also be spotted here.
Nilgai antelope, the sloth bear, the dhole, or Indian wild dog, and an occasional
panther are also part of the wildlife. More than 200 species of birds also inhibit
the park. The diverse flora and fauna of the forest is simply impeccable. But
foremost, the park is known for its Tiger population. It is an excellent dwelling
ground for professional photographers, across the world.
MUST VISIT PLACES: Bamni Dadar, known as Sunset Point, is the most beautiful
section of the park, and the view of the sunset from this spot is absolutely
mesmerizing.
VISITING SEASON: The park is closed from July 1 to October 31, because
of the heavy monsoon. The ideal time to visit Kanha would be the period between
February and June.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES: Forest Lodge (ITDC), Forest Rest Houses,
M.P. Tourism Log Huts, Kipling Camp are the available means of accommodation.
Royal tiger resort is also available for best and comfortable accommodation.
M P S T D C jeeps are available on hire for touring the park. For tiger-tracking,
elephants are used. Forest Department guides accompany visitors around the park
on circuits, they help to explore and view particular places.

PANNA
NATIONAL PARK
A recently created national park with diverse , the Satna National Park consists
of vast stretches of unharmed and unblemished forests. It lies along the river
Ken, 32 km from Khajuraho. The place has a good tiger population. The road towards
Satna also passes through the Satna National Park.
PLACES TO VISIT: It hosts many waterfalls that have become popular tourist
spots. Day excursions to the place also incorporate visits to diamond mines
at Majhgawan, the Rajgarh Palace and the temples of Panna town
VISITING SEASON: Although the park is open throughout the year, the winter
season is the best time to visit the park. This is because the sultry heat can
have a daunting effect on the visitors and spoil the enjoyment.
HOW TO GET THERE:
BY ROAD: The park can be easily approached from the village of Madla,
22 km from Khajuraho.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES: Good accommodation is available in close
proximity of the Panna National Park, in the form of tree houses and tourist
lodges. The facilities offered are also fine.
